our way

from growing up by Tai Chirovsky

lyrics

he swore to me he'd be sober; and he swore to me he would pretend.
and I swore to him I'd love him until the bittersweet end.
but we all broke our promises.

tell me what I should do -
carrying around these parts of you?

he told me every girl who loved him ended up in love with someone else.
and I fell for the parts he hid from me,
his little heart at home in a jar on the shelf,
but I never came over.

tell me what am I supposed to do -
carrying around these parts of you?

he told me we'd go traveling farther than anyone had before.
but I came home late that night, laid down, and said:
"I don't want to go anywhere, anymore."
and that's all that's left of that.

so tell me how I should feel
when parts of what I've been through have been real?
Tell me what I'm supposed to say;
sometimes things just don't go our way.
