growing up

if this is growing up, then I don't want to. no one told me it would be quite so painful, or that so much would change, like old furniture gets rearranged, and I don't want to. if this is letting you go, I guess I have to admit to parts of you, I only pretend to know. what can I say? she loves you more than I want to. what can I say? she loves you more than I do. and I don't want to anymore care about what you think, and what you have ignored, I can't stand the idea of holding on, but I'm holding on. holding on, holding on, holding on, but I don't want to.

you are the good, the bad, and the ugly too. and I don't like myself half as much as I love you. you bring out the best parts of me, the fun side everyone prefers to see, and you take all of my memories. cheap stuff is fine, top shelf is divine, and I drink you in. what else can I do when they prefer me when I'm with you? you are all that I need, except a couple of crucial calories, come to think of it - my mental faculties, but you - you'll take all my memories.

he swore to me he'd be sober; and he swore to me he would pretend. and I swore to him I'd love him until the bittersweet end. but we all broke our promises. tell me what I should do - carrying around these parts of you? he told me every girl who loved him ended up in love with someone else. and I fell for the parts he hid from me, his little heart at home in a jar on the shelf, but I never came over. tell me what am I supposed to do - carrying around these parts of you? he told me we'd go traveling farther than anyone had before. but I came home late that night, laid down, and said: "I don't want to go anywhere, anymore." and that's all that's left of that. so tell me how I should feel when parts of what I've been through have been real? Tell me what I'm supposed to say; sometimes things just don't go our way.
